Childhood
Amelia Earhart was born on July 24, 1897 in Atchison, Kansas. Edwin, Amelia's father was lawyer that worked for a railroad. So she spent a lot of the time in her childhood playing with her sister Muriel. While growing up Amelia and her sister had a lot of adventures. For example they would collect insects and frogs, they would also play sports like baseball or football. She learned to throw a .22 rifle and with that she would kill the rats in her Dad’s barn. Amelia's first time flying was when she was 7 years old. She had made a homemade roller coaster with the help of Muriel her sister and her uncle. And after crashing that roller coaster dramatically she said to Muriel, “it was just like flying.” Then in 1908 when Amelia was 11 years old she saw one of the Wright Brothers in the Iowa State Fair. And by then she had no interest in planes or flying. After Amelia graduated high school, she wasn't really sure what she wanted to do. So first she went to Ogontz School in Pennsylvania, but Amelia dropped out and she became a nurse's aid to attend wounded soldiers from World War I. And then she studied to become a mechanic, but then she went back to school for a career in medicine. Then eventually she decided to go in a medical research, that was until she took her very first plane flight.
